It truly is never too late to start. Many adult students study with us each week, at every level from brand new beginner to advanced.
Perhaps you have always wanted to play a certain instrument but never had the time until now. Perhaps you took lessons years ago as a child and have been meaning to take them up again. Perhaps you are a professional preparing for auditions or recording sessions, or you have a specific goal – like writing and singing a song for your partner on your anniversary.
Your instructor will make you feel right at home and customise a lesson plan based on your interests and goals. Lessons are provided in a fun, low-pressure environment, and participation in our recitals is entirely optional.

How Do Adult Lessons Differ From Those of Younger Students?
One of the reasons our faculty enjoy working with adults is that adults usually know exactly what their goals are – and sometimes even have a timeline for achieving them.
Younger students are often unsure what kind of music they want to learn beyond the basics, so early lessons are more of an experiment to see where their interests lie. Adults arrive with clarity and motivation, which makes a substantial difference to progress. Our goal is to make each lesson a perfect combination of your needs and wants – for example, you may want to play a certain song, and to get there you need to practice something specific. Our teachers give you the tools to do exactly that.

Music allows us to unplug and communicate in ways that words may fail, and is a fantastic way to relieve the stresses of everyday life.
As adults we have endless demands on our time – family, work, friends – and technology, which was supposed to save time, often just fills it with more work. Studying music is a wonderful way to keep the mind active and stimulated while carving out something that is genuinely yours. We have brought the joy of music to hundreds of adult beginners over the years; with practice and dedication, anything is possible.

Am I too old to start music lessons?
No. It genuinely is never too late. We have taught hundreds of adult beginners over the years, many of whom started in retirement. Adults often progress faster than expected because they know what they want and are self-motivated to practice.
Which programs are open to adults?
All of them. Adults may begin in any of our private music programs at any time – piano, voice, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, drums, composition and more – and may also join adult ensembles such as the Folk Band.
Do I have to perform in a concert?
Never. All of our concerts are completely optional. Some adult students only want to learn for their own enjoyment, while others cannot wait to get on stage – both are equally welcome.
I played years ago but I am rusty – where do I start?
Right where you are. Your teacher will assess what you remember at the first lesson and build from there, rather than starting you over from scratch. Returning students often surprise themselves with how quickly it comes back.
Can lessons fit around a busy work schedule?
Yes. We offer flexible scheduling and a generous make-up policy, and adults can take lessons online some weeks and in person others. Just talk to the office about the times that work for you.
